Federal Spending on Task Order Vehicles Continues Upward March

INPUT Says..."According to INPUT's analysis of the new fiscal year 2007 federal procurement spending data, federal spending on task order contract vehicles, such as GSA-managed governmentwide acquisition contracts (GWACs) and agency-managed task order vehicles, such as SeaPort and ITES, increased by 39% over 2006.

Senate revisits FISMA

The Office of Management and Budget reports that, as of last year, agency compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) had significantly improved. » Read Article

The OMB's FY07 FISMA Report to Congress details progress towards better security. However, the real story may be the increase in attacks against Federal systems. According the the US-CERT data referenced, attacks on Federal systems were up 152% in FY07, three times the increase in FY06 from FY05. Government Reform panel passes contractor database bill

A bill to set up a public database on federal contractor performance and misconduct won approval Thursday from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee despite Republican concerns the measure could allow unfair attacks on contractors as well as end up barring large companies from receiving government contracts. » Read Article

"Three key patterns have emerged in the set of legislation proposed by Rep. Waxman, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee: Transparency, Restrictions on Limited Competition Contracting, and Reducing Waste, Fraud and Abuse. Thus far, the Transparency related activities have had the greatest degree of adoption while the others have not found the same broad support.  Sen. Obama was a co-sponsor for the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006.
